I've just pushed the VERY WIP “alternate” theme that will become the default when it's finished.
It actually uses your wallpaper.
It has more rich splashes of accent color.
It has a floating side panel for your bio, so you can follow your guests around your site, staring at them.
In short, it's everything we could ever dream of.
And implementing it is teaching me a lot about what we'll need to build into panacea to support our other wonderful dreams.
The immediate hurdle is getting the current path into the layout template. I'm currently passing the info I need into the session in router.ex and then picking it up from there and stuffing it in the socket from an on_mount hook. This approach has… several issues. But it's one of the first parts I implemented when I was just picking up Elixir and Phoenix and it's about time to revisit. It looks like some new solutions have popped up!
Anyway. I'm very pleased with how quickly this new layout came together today. We did good. I really enjoy working together in person.
I'm going to put the new theme on my site so you can see it. Feel free to try it on yourself from your Settings and tell me what you think! Remember, it's WIP.
TONIGHT, I'm going to sleep at a decent hour and then I'm going to wake up at a decent hour and then I'm going to tackle those handle_params hooks. That's the project for tomorrow.
